Musings on heroism

The thing about being a hero... it's not about ability. It's not about bravery. It's about opportunity.

There are times when you look at a situation, and you see a way to help. And you choose to. To help.

There are many opportunities. It's not about running into a burning building to save a child, although that certainly counts, if you succeed. It's seeing the things that are within your power to change. Cheering up a friend. Helping a child with their homework. Living as an example of how people should be.

Of course, there is a difference between offering someone a helping hand, and using shackles. Not everyone wants to be saved. Not everyone has my ideals. Not everyone shares my definition of salvation.

But if you have the power to remake the world...

And enough arrogance to believe you have the right to make some changes...
